Which cpu would be better for gaming and speed in general use? I don't mind about the price but I'm being specific between these two so I'd rather not receive suggestions for anything else. I also know that they will use different types of motherboard ;)

I agree. I started a similar thread here http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2062843/760k-cache-gaming.html
My conclusion was that I'd rather have a H81 mATX mobo with i5 4440 than a 990 ATX mobo with FX 6300. More to do with mATX form factor being important to me but also the single core performance over the 6300 is more important than the additional 2 cores/threads in gaming imo.

Looking at that thread I have chosen to go with the i5 :)

I think we are in a similar position then. What GPU have you chosen? I'm looking very closely at the Gigabyte R9 270 as it only costs £128!!!
GTX 760 is £50 more expensive and doesn't offer a whole lot more performance imo. I have no special preference between NV and AMD.

Not really a big difference.

'General Use' is more dependent upon disk I/O, fast RAMs, SSD, etc.

As far as gaming, at HD resolutions it's still your video card that is going to ultimately determine gaming performance.

And something like this combo should free up $80-$100 extra cash toward that video card.

Well at the moment I have a GTX 650 2gb OC. So if necessary I can just overclock it. But I would like to upgrade this as well, I was thinking of upgrading to a R9 270 if after all this I have enough money. I know my card isn't that great which is why I would like to upgrade it. I was wondering if it would be worth getting the AMD bundle and a R9 270, or keeping the 650 and getting the Intel bundle?
