Problem booting windows 7 without hard reset

Hi everyone. I have an Asus G73JW which runs on Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Some time ago my computer simply would not boot windows at all. Sometimes upon attempting to boot it would give me recovery options, but sometimes it would not even allow that.(Like allowing me to use F2,F9, etc.) so I used the F9 option to perform windows recovery. The computer now boots up, but only when I remove the battery and power supply, hold the power button for 30 seconds, and then plug in the power supply and power it. So once the computer turns off, whether it's going to sleep or into hibernation, I still have to do the hard reset. Here is some additional information that might be of use: Under advisement I did a second windows recovery to partition it to both hard drives. When I recovered it the first time while only reformatting a single hard drive, all of the files were left on the laptop. When I partitioned it to both the second time, half of the files were gone. I mean any files from C had gone, but files still remained on the second hard drive from before. I hope this information will suffice and is not too lengthy. Thanks so much for any help. I would love to be able to boot up my computer without issues. Thanks again:)

Hey, I checked the bios version for my model of laptop and it is the latest one. I'm hoping for this to be a software related issue, so I'll try to explore that side first. I did the windows recovery, but should I use a better way to reformat? Like to remove windows and reinstall it? Thanks so much.

Okay. I'm sorry I misunderstood you. I did a little research and performed the reflash. I think it has worked! Thanks very much for the suggestion. I have not reformatted it, but I don't think it needs it, as it is now restarting successfully as well as it boots up from being shut down too. I believe the issue is resolved. Again, thank you so much. You have saved me from spending money on repairs:)

Hey, unfortunately the fix has gone away. It worked very well for about a day or so. When I left the laptop on it eventually went into sleep mode. I did a hard reset and it worked again. Then he next day the same thing happened but it wouldn't boot at all that time. I have tried over a dozen times to do a hard reset(unplugging it and holding the power button down for 30 second with he battery removed) but with no success. The computer seems to be getting power. The fans turn on, the backlight under the keyboard turns on, but the display doesnt seem to be receiving power. The keyboard recognizes when I press certain buttons. If I press the caps lock, the light turns on to indicate it has been depressed. There are no sounds of Windows being booted this time, though, and I have no option of utilizing the F2, F4 F9, etc. given this information is there any advice to be had before I send it in to have it repaired? Does it sound like hardware or software? Thanks again so much for any input.

Hm sorry man im out of idea :) but is hardware problem, sound like power supply does not have much power ,like i said first time.

Try without battery unpluged just power cable and turn on, there several reason could be ,some capacitor broken.. if you can just reformat it to try. good luck

If you get it to start up, go to BIOS and look for USB Legacy option. If it's ENABLED, disable it or do the vice-versa. Do make sure nothing connected on all of USB ports.

A couple of things to try

1. Remove Battery and Power Supply - Then Press Power Button a few seconds - Might clear a power issue - Connect Power Supply (no battery) then try to power up normally.

2. Remove Battery - Connect Power Supply then press and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds - Then remove power supply for 30 seconds - Then Put Power Supply back in (No Battery) and try to power up normally.

Put the battery back in.

Clean the contact pins on the battery and in the notebook.

2 has worked for many people.
