I purchased a FX8120 processor and a Asrock 990FX Extreme 4 motherboard about 15 months ago and when I recently installed Norton Antivirus on my computer I began receiving high CPU usage alerts when I am in Microsoft Money 97 and when I convert video using Any Video Convertor. When I receive these alerts I immediately go to the Windows Task Manager were I find the CPU usage at zero percent in most of the instances but there is a history of high CPU usage in the Windows Task Manager. I believe Microsoft Money 97 only uses one core and the high CPU usage is limited to one core. When I receive the alert when using Any Video Convertor and I go to the Windows Tasks Manager the usage is high in all 8 cores and remains that way for several seconds before returning to an acceptable level. The BIOS is set to default and there have been no attempts to over clock or increase the capacity of the CPU or motherboard.
My first computer had a 500 MHz AMD K62 processor and high CPU usage was never an issue especially when using Microsoft Money 97 in the 5 years I owned it. After that I used a Intel P4 Prescott with a speed of 2800 MHz on a garden variety of motherboards with dual channel before buying the FX8120 and CPU usage was never an issue when using Microsoft Money 97 or when using video encoding tools such as Any Video Convertor, DVD Shrink, Power Producer, NERO or capturing MPEG2 using TV turner cards like Hauppauge.
When it came to my attention that 85 to 100 percent of my CPU resources are being used to do jobs that only require minimal resources with my old CPU's has raise concern given the new CPU has at least 2 to 3 times the capacity of the old CPU's on every point including the motherboard environment in which it resides. Any assistance in resolving problems if any or information that would help me understand or make best use of my CPU would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
