i had 2 sticks of corsair vengance 4 gbs and got a new stick of ingston hyperx blu. The new stick shows up and it says 12 gb of ram in winodws. but when i go to task manager it says 8
the problem was i had it in the 2, 3, 4 slots. i switched the corsair to 1 and 3 and the kingston to 2 and it runs fine now. The problem was i was attempting to run 2 different sticks in the same channel. my mistake it was a quick fix.
RAMs are not meant to be mix and matched. They are recommended to be of the same manufacturer, model number, size, frequency, timing, even the year of manufacturer can matter sometimes.
