Asus gtx 660 not permitting dual display?

so i went to microcenter today and picked up an adapter that went from dvi male dvi female, and then a dvi-vga adapter. my second monitorr will not work, though is detcted by computer. switching cables lets the other work, but still cant get two at any given time. is it possible that i messed something up, or is it just an adapter issue or a port issue?
EDIT: one moniter is a 4:3 and other is a 16:9 if that makes a difference...

VGA can't be adapted to HDMI unless your GPU supports digital VGA output, which is very unlikely. This product has stated "NOTE: Your Video card must support digital signal output through VGA port function. Please consult with your VGA card's user manual for more information." http://www.amazon.com/Video-Cable-Black-Support-Necessary/dp/B002TUC64W

If you got a monitor with DVI and another one with VGA, then you can just connect those to your GPU if it sports each one of those.

I just found out that with my gtx 760, the duel dvi ports do NOT support two monitors. The second dvi is for a single 120 hz monitor that needs it for the higher refresh rate.

On a related note, I'm trying to get a second monitor out of my cards hdmi port to no success. If anyone can help with that.

Unless it's a vga monitor. I'm having the same issue. I even used a VGA to HDMI adapter and it's not responding to the hdmi port. If you have two vga monitors, then I suggest a vga splitter in the DVI port.

i found out that the second port doesnt support vga. luckily my dad let me use his dvi moniter for dual moniters with windows using extend. appreciate the help, though got it figured out before i managed to get back here
