i almost did everything from reseating the cards.. using another pci.. using single card with both cards.. used a sapphire vapor-x 280x.. clean uninstall drivers and installing them back.. using different version of drivers.. nothing has changed.

all i got now up my sleeves is to fresh install windows altho i don't think it cud be windows.. but got nothing else to do..

Did you do anything to the cards? OC them, change the bios, etc.

do you run firefox by chance? if so this is just a shot in the dark but uninstall it restart your computer and see if it is still artifacting...this is why. when the 7000 series first came out they had a problem with artifacting because of a driver that firefox uses. the 280x use the makeup of the first gen 7970 so maybe it is causing the same issues

everything happens when windows is at startup.. without starting any programs.. i even disabled every app in the startup menu.

if this is really it, it has to so with the driver being installed on the system not if it is running or not all it has to do is be installed. do you have firefox?

Well lets narrow it down a little. Try each card one at a time, in safe mode. If it is still doing this, you have a hardware problem.

yh i have firefox but ive had it before and nothing happened..

all that changed is that i had the 280x's and then got a 7990 (RIP my dear 7990 :(  ) and then i put them back and this happened.

in safe mode nothing happens.. everything is ok and i think thats because windows and some drivers arnt loaded in safe mode.. and yh i tried that and resolution changes and display drivers dont load

when you did the clean install of the drivers did you use ddu or a similar program in safe mode to uninstall all your graphic drivers?

it doesnt stick.. it gets underclocked everytime i boot my windows.. i use MSI afterburner to OC and monitor my GPUs but i disabled it thinking it cud be the one causing all of this but afterburner is innocent, something else is causing that.. i have anti-virus and i have done a boot-time scan but nothing.

antiviruses dont usually scan for malware its a seperate software to scan and remove malware. alot of them are mining bugs for gpus

true but it could be any malware really and it could throttle the cards. the only other thing i can think of before a clean install of windows would be taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in

Reset your motherboard BIOS and re-set all settings to default dude! I got this problem with my ATI HD 5450 and every game was getting weird visuals and displays. Disable anti-aliasing on the gpu settings and the game settings as well. Then see. I don't think it's malware or a virus because I use my PC with dangerous websites and without anti-virus and my PC is damn fine. All I mean to say is RE-SET YOUR MOTHERBOARD SETTINGS!!

taking your cmos battery out and putting it back in is the an outward way to reset any saved board settings to make sure the settings are erased and put back to default value

I have ASUS P8Z77-V and my motherboard resets by lifting a 2-pin gold cap, moving it to other 2 pins and then putting it back. So, I just suggested to reset the motherboard anyways.

yes you can do it with jumpers as well and your board also has a cmos battery it is next to the 2nd pci slot under your graphics card

Okay, just set graphics to minimum and see. Also set all clocks to default or find a suitable setting for your PC. I guess if nothing helps, you'll have to re-install Windows. Create another partition on your HDD, of half the size and install another OS on the new partition. Then you'll have 2 Windows on one PC and you can recover whatever you want. [Don't use Windows Recovery, it'll get some misconfigured settings and your new Windows will also fail!]. No way out now. :\

since it isnt artifacting in safe mode a windows reinstall should fix the issue it is most likely some driver driver confliction, fingers crossed

just try to run it with out any programs like firefox installed on your windowsget the drivers and test the card before you download any third party drivers as since it worked in safe mode it is likely a driver issue

so you already formatted it and it works good?

here is the test to see if it has any bad sectors any way though

Yup.. nothing at all.. infact my 280x's performance got slightly better when I tested it

try running the test and using different sata cable in a different mobo slot just to be safe. it was likely a driver that was still on your hdd that was conflicting with the 280x's

Hey, do one thing, DO NOT CHOOSE TO "AUTO-UPDATE" WINDOWS WHEN INSTALLING, IT'LL MAKE YOUR COMPUTER A PIECE OF CRAP! I never use Windows Updates even after my PC is original. I just get graphic driver updates and I also keep a backup of the old drivers just-in-case it goes out. And thanks for such a reply - "You Guys are the best" :)
