Hey guys,
I'm thinking of buying a new CPU and motherboard
I was wondering how much of an FPS increase i would get in games such as Skyrim and Battlefield 3 by upgrading from my current i3 2120 @3.3Ghz to an i5 3570k/4670k, with a moderate (4-4.2Ghz) overclock.
Current rig/unigene heaven 4.0 score and fps: http://prntscr.com/314co9
Thanks

Well, right now I would imagine that your GPU is bottlenecking your CPU a bit because your GPU is significantly faster. Getting one of the CPU's you mentioned would lead to a much more balanced PC, and will probably boost your fps quite a bit. However, it is almost impossible to say exactly how much of a boost you would get without first buying the new CPU and testing it yourself.

Just in case your care, you can easily check your bottleneck by getting a program like GPUz and running it while playing your games. If your GPU is not at 100% usage then subtract the number you are getting from 100 and there is your approximate percentage bottleneck.

So, I loaded up Skyrim with GPU-z and coretemp and this is what i got. http://prntscr.com/315bb2
From what you (and the programs) are telling me, I have about a 40-50% bottleneck?

Looks to be so. That's a pretty significant number too, so one of the new CPU's that you mentioned would definitely be a better match, and should bring that percentage down by a lot.

The reason this is happening is that the CPU is not fast enough to process the data from the game and as a result the CPU usage is higher than it should be, and the GPU usage is lower when it should be maxed out or at least close to maxed out.

In other words, the CPU is doing more work than it should be an as a result the GPU is allowing itself to be lazy.
