I bought an MSI R9 270X Gaming back in January that worked great and I started to mine for alt-coins with it when I was not using the computer. I bought another and that one seemed to be working correctly (I had to RMA the one before it though).
Here's the sequence of events:
- They were both running normally for about 4 days, since they seemed to be running nice and cool I decided to overclocked them slightly with MSI Afterburner.
- The cards are MSI R9 270X Gaming cards so the default clock is 1080 core and 1400 mem.
- I overclocked them both to 1100 core and 1450 mem (I had the one running stable at 1150 core and 1500 mem before)
- Started to get grey lines on the screen, restarted the computer, brought the clocks back down to "stock" but the issue with the grey lines continued under load, then at idle
- Eventually the computer would completely freeze after I got to the log-in screen right after Windows 8.1 initializes
- The computer will boot into safemode, so I went in and manually cleared out the AMD drivers to no avail
Note: I have played around with the VBIOS switch on the side of the cards, on the "Qietmode" setting the computer boots to black and the other (overclocked?) setting the computer boots to the log-in screen then freezes
SO basically I'm wondering if anyone has some ideas on how to fix this.
