Wired connection issues with router

Hi, all -

Here's my problem in brief:
I have a Windows 7 desktop pc which is connected by ethernet cable to a router. Internet connections regularly get dropped, and by that I mean a short interruption every few seconds. Downloads regularly fail, videos don't stream, and, as often as not, web pages don't load completely, or at all, unless I hit reload.

Any other device which connects to this router doesn't have this issue, with either wired or wireless connections. Also, connecting the desktop directly to the modem eliminates the issue.

This has been going on for the better part of a week. Any suggestions? I'll provide any additional info that I can.

Thanks in advance -

try finding the latest drivers for the Ethernet card (then uninstall and update it with the latest drivers). See how well that works out. Also, just in case download spybot and run a system scan to ensure there isn't anything going on in the background.

Best LUck

Drivers are the latest available for my ethernet adapter, but I can try out the spybot suggestion. Not sure why malware would only assert itself when connected to the router and not directly to the modem, though.

My guess would be a failing wireless network interface card. If other devices have no problems with the wireless connection and you are fine when you go wired, that all but points it out as the culprit.

As per my original post, my problem is ONLY with the desktop pc using the wired Ethernet adapter. Devices using wireless connections are trouble-free.

To eliminate some variables: Every diagnostic I've run on the Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet adapter has found no problems, and the problem is ONLY present when connected to the router, not when connected directly to the modem. However, the router doesn't seem to be the issue because a laptop connected by ethernet cable to the router has no connectivity problems.

So, 'desktop wired to router' is the only problematic combination.
