Hi Folks!
I have a laptop with a 2-year old Seagate 500 GB hybrid drive. Lately it has been showing up with a lot of bad sectors. I just bought a Seagate "kit" with a 1 TB laptop drive. The kit ad said that it contained everything i need to clone my old drive onto a new one, but all the kit included was the bare drive, a drive enclosure, and (I am guessing) cloning software on the drive. But it seems to me that i need some kind of external enclosure with a USB cable, or minimally, some special cable. Is that right? What would you call a the cable or enclosure that I need? Or - I have several ancient laptops laying around. Is there a way I could use one of them as an external enclosure? Money is kind of tight right now, so I am looking for relatively simple one-time solution.

I may be using the wrong term. This is not like an external drive enclosure, it is just a cover to keep the dust out -- the whole thing goes in the laptop. The description of it as a "kit" confused me too. I expected to get more, like an external enclosure or a USB to SATA cable.
