I've had my computer for around 2 years January and I've had absolutely no problems. I had the prebuilt titan 8100i triceratop with a HIS ICEQ X 6950 and 60GB SSD from Overclockers. Although I've hardly used the computer for gaming I recently started getting back into it. The other night when playing a game my computer restarted without any warning, everything shut down properly so I assumed it was a driver update.

When I switched the computer back on everything ran fine up until the desktop had to load, just after the windows loading segment. The computer screen loses signal but everything else seems to be running fine, no restarts or anything. Sometimes the screen even freezes up and looks as if there's a lighter shade of black bordering around the black screen.

I started windows up in safe mode and tried to restore but I had no luck, there were no restore points. I downloaded the display driver clean up software and I was able to get back on the desktop. As there were no GPU drivers installed I went onto install them, but ended up with the black screen again. Even tried installing off the disk but no luck. I wiped my HDDs and reinstalled a fresh version of windows, but still to my misfortune I have the black screen/ or no signal after the loading screen.

I removed the GPU and inserted my very old Geforce 8600 GT and everything now works a charm.

Do you think my GPU needs replacing?

Thank you very much!

PS.

I've tried cleaning everything
Removing the CMOS Battery
Loading up with 1 stick of RAM at a time

But the problem persists
