Hi,

I ll start by giving you the specs of my PC:

amd xf8320 overclocked 4.0GHz
Radeon r9 270x
8Gb 1330MHz ram
windows 7
Asus M5A97 R2.0 motherboard
Seasonic 620W modular power supply

ive recently bought Borderlands 2 but when i decided to play it, it will open but even on the main menu there is this weird sort of stuttering.

Its difficult to explain but its like the game runs smoothly for about a second (maybe less) and then seems to freeze for a fraction of a second. This happens over and over again, and changing the graphics settings seems to have no effect. I am aware of the PhysX settings and how to change them for amd gpu but again, that seems to make no difference.

Also i have used FRAPS to look at my FPS and its always between 50 and 60.

I really have no clue what is wrong. Please help!!

Thanks a lot

Does the game continue to stutter if you keep standing in the same place without moving or changing direction even after 2-3 minutes? (Try it) If yes, then is it the only game that does that? What other games are you running? If the answer to the first question is "No", then you can try the following fix:

1 - Go into your "My Documents" folder.

2 - Find and open the folder "My Games".

3 - Here open folder "Borderlands 2".

4 - Go into folder "WillowGame" and then into "Config".

5 - Here you'll find a file called "WillowEngine.ini". Copy/Paste a copy of it somewhere else as a backup, in case you end up messing up the original file.

6 - Open the original "WillowEngine.ini" with Wordpad.

7 - Press Ctrl+F to open the text search in Wordpad, and type "MipFade", and press Enter.

8 - The search will take you to the following 4 variables:
MipFadeInSpeed0=0
MipFadeOutSpeed0=0
MipFadeInSpeed1=0
MipFadeOutSpeed1=0

9 - Change all their values to "0" as shown above.

10 - Save and exit.

Run the game, and see if the stuttering is fixed, or at least reduced to an acceptable level.

This is really weird, i just ran the game now BEFORE i tried what you suggested just to see if there was stuttering while i stood still (btw, i play games like; metro last light, the witcher 2, guild wars 2, team fortress 2, and yes this was the only game with the stuttering in it) and there was hardly any!!!! even when moving around!!!! there was still a bit but its finally playable!

The only thing i can think of that may have caused this difference, is that before, when i was trying to run the game i had a mild overclock on. I was going from 3.5GHz to 4GHz. For various reasons i decided to go back to default settings, mainly because i wasnt really noticing any boost in performance with the overclock. Im pretty sure i never tried running borderlands 2 without the overclock until now.

I have absolutely no idea why the overclock affected it the way it did, but it must have been that. Im pretty sure my overclock was stable too, i never got around to doing a 6 hour test, but i ran Prime95 for an hour and it was fine. It also ran all of my other games perfectly, including Metro last light on ultra settings.

Thanks for the replies but it seems to be fixed now. I would be interested to read any other ideas or explanations as to why it is now working, but thats just me being curious.

Thanks again.
