I was planning on buying the asus gtx 660 in a few weeks but I wasn't sure if it will be capable of running next gen games, I just want to be able to run games on medium settings. Or is there any other cards in the $200-$220 range that will be better, I want that price range because if I do need a better card than I will have to upgrade my power supply as well.

Solution
What is your PSU's model number?

GTX 660 should have no problem running next gen games, just at around medium settings or closer to low as stuff gets more demanding, but medium for at least a year is expected from me.

Around 210 you can get R9 270X

Around 250 you can get GTX 760

A 660 will run most games just fine on 1080p. Just like you're asking on medium settings.
Though you could try to get a r9 270x as they shouldn't cost to much more and are a little bit faster, with support for 4k and you'll be able to use the mantle api for upcoming games later for bettter performance.

And what's your power supply?
