Hi Forum,

Brand new rig with this CPU cooler.

Wanted to the kick the tires off right and try something graphic intensive. The computer shut down after an hour (10 minutes in a new, open world area). I tried again and it lasted another 10 minutes in that area. Speedfan claims my CPU is running a steady 128c at all times. After reboot, BIOS shows it at 54c and CPUID confirms that. GPUs never exceed 60c apiece. More than I like, but it hardly seems critical.

This build is based on suggestions from this forum. I was advised that the cooling would be more than adequate, so I'm skeptical that I'm cooking my PC. But this is a pretty demanding game. Any thoughts? Am I cooking my system?

Many thanks.

128c is way too high of a temp, that's why you are shutting down. Check to make sure you installed that heatsink correctly. It has a proper amount of thermal paste, and is pressed tighly against the CPU.

Thanks, but I don't buy Speedfan's report. It's 128c at ALL times, no matter what I'm doing. That seems like a pretty strong indication that Speedfan is wrong. BIOS and CPUID contradict Speedfan there, while CPUID and Speefan's report on all other hardware is consistent.

Edit: I did as you suggested. Heatsink install looks great, snugly against the CPU, and there's a good amount of thermal paste. Still at a loss. Any other thoughts?

I'm convinced that this is a driver/SLI/Geforce Experience settings issue. After updating my drivers, the reboot issue occurs before I can even load a game. The computer is cool as a cucumber. I am going to try a fresh install.

Should this thread be moved to Graphics?

I'd appreciate any additional thoughts. My concern is that these issues will reoccur with other games. If it's distinctly a MLL issue, I'll forgo playing it and request a refund instead of taking up anyone else's time.

Thanks again.
