Future of 8 core

Solution
Yep graphics editors, CAD systems, Mathematical Systems (Prime, Folding at Home, SETI at home, etc) and Physics engines will use the CPU. That being said most of the software developers behind these systems are either moving towards the GPU or using a Hybrid of GPU and CPU so you will probably see one of two things happen in the future.

1) All processing will be done on the GPUs or some sort of APU and the CPU will only be used to device interconnectivity.
2) CPUs start using CUDA cores and become GPUs.

My guess is it is going to be 1. We are already seeing strides towards this end when Intel integrated the North Bridge on their CPUs (I think it was with the Sandy Bridge) and eliminating the need for the north bridge to connect the...

My guess is it is going to be 1. We are already seeing strides towards this end when Intel integrated the North Bridge on their CPUs (I think it was with the Sandy Bridge) and eliminating the need for the north bridge to connect the PCI-e and RAM busses with the processor. We might see mother boards that start to integrate a GPU as a sort of co-processor to the CPU like the old floating point processors (Math Co-Processor)s where to the CPU back in the 80s.

That being said I doubt we will ever see a CPU with more than 10 cores.

That's true I forgot about the XEONs and the idea of running multiple virtual machines and database systems. I still think the home computer is going to move more and more to the GPU and the CPU is going to move towards the ARM processor.
