PC Lag Issues

Hi all,

I recently purchased a PC and am wondering if the issues I am having is normal. I have played League of Legends, Thief, and Elder Scrolls Online on it. While playing I will randomly have a dramatic FPS drop. I have been playing with all graphic settings maxed out, and have tried with/without vertical sync.

The FPS is as follows for the games:
LoL - 100+ FPS, drops to 20 randomly (especially team fights)
Thief - built in benchmark tool had low of 12, average of 35, high of 60
ESO - runs at 60 (once PvP begins it will drop dramatically until I can't tell what is happening, but I can't give the exact FPS).

I would also add that I have dropped the settings for LoL and ESO to medium/low and still receive the insane fps drop.

Here are my system specs:

CPU: AMD FX-9370 4.40 GHz (4.7 GHz Turbo) Eight-Core AM3+ CPU 8MB L2 Cache & Turbo Core Technology
HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
MEMORY: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1866MHz Dual Channel Memory (ADATA XPG V2)
MOTHERBOARD: * GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD3 AMD 990 ATX
POWERSUPPLY: 800 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Certified Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready
VIDEO: MSI R9 280X 3GB
-Also, GPU has most current driver installed, I'm running Windows 7.

I have had Afterburner open to monitor how the games run, highest temperature it has hit is 70C.

Is this normal? Am I expecting to much? I honestly don't know but I feel that for what I purchased I should have everything running perfectly.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, also, the sooner the better (have to get it back quickly if this isn't normal).

Thanks in advance for any help!

I haven't overclocked anything. I have turned the fans base speed up to 50% though.

As far as cooling goes I have ASETEK 510LC 120MM WATERCOOLER. I have no idea what my CPU's temp is getting up to. I've only monitored the usage in Task Manager and it doesn't ever get very high. What program would you recommend to check on processor temps?

-Also, thanks for the quick responses! I appreciate it!

So I reinstalled Windows 7 as well as drivers. I also downloaded HWMonitor. As I've downloaded League of Legends, surfed the internet, looked over a few things, and installed steam/ESO client, my temperatures are coming in at 60+ a lot of times. It has hit 80C. That's without me even touching a game.

I'm assuming that's really bad, right?

Any recommendations if that is an issue? I bought it from Cyberpower and have the warranty, but if it is definitely an overheating CPU then I don't mind buying a better liquid cpu cooler and leaving the Cyberpower mailing process hassle out.

My only concern with that is that I have NO experience with liquid cooling, and I would be a bit scared to swap it out. Is it very involved or risky with liquid going all over? I only have experience swapping out hard drives, graphics cards, and RAM, is it more complicated then that?

Newegg link to your CPU

All the reviews shout about the heat, and most about the lacking stock cooler.
I'm still learning this stuff myself, but it could very well be overheating issues.

I had a hard time tracking down your cooler, it looks outdated and possibly not really up to scratch for the heat your CPU is apparently generating.

Plenty of videos about installing liquid coolers, closed loops like the H100i fit a pump which is much smaller over the CPU and then the radiator is generally attached to the top of the case (with fans) to draw air through and cool.
Check out the H100i, see if it CAN fit in your case, and whether you like the look of it. Generally has great reviews. Otherwise I think you will be looking at expensive aircoolers.

I've been watching videos on youtube from Linustechtips/techquickie and learning a lot about builds, there's a few videos about coolers there that might help you. I'm still learning all this stuff myself :)

Just got out of a game of League of Legends. Highest temp is 80C. Is there any definitive yes/no that is too hot for a CPU to be running at? I think you're right Solace and I should get a better cooler for the CPU, but I am curious to know if 80C is considered to much or not. I haven't really been able to find anything online.
