So my machine has been having this problem more and more lately, it never used to happen. For background info, I have too monitors of different resolution, both running off of a hd 7950. Processor is an i-7 sandybridge 2600k, 16g of good ram, and plenty of cooling in my case. The only weak links could be my motherboard, an Asus p8p67, or my psu which is some brand of 80 plus 750w, I think corsair. The only extra background software I run is Rainmeter, which I have on both monitors.

So now for the problem. First, my monitors freeze (I know it's not the whole system because music will still play and I can still hear and talk in skype) for about five or so seconds. Then they both go black for a few seconds, after which parts of the main monitor and all of the other come back. At this point the second monitor functions fine, however that which does come back on the main monitor (usually only the taskbar, with the icons in their usual positions but another set shifted to the right in an awkward position) is not responding, and if I click on anything in the first monitor then the whole computer freezes again and I am forced to manually restart my computer.

This will happen completely independent of high loads. It's happened several times with only chrome running, trying to play a video on vimeo, or pretty much any situation, simple or complex. This seems to be a pretty specific and obscure incident, I can't find anything relating to it on the internet. Could seriously use some help on this one.
