I just built a computer and everything on it seems to be working as it should except for the USB 3.0 ports. I have installed and uninstalled the drivers for the ports at least 5 times now and have made sure that the ports are enabled in the BIOS settings. I have a wireless adapter that uses USB 3.0 and tried plugging it into the 3.0 slot. The adapter flashes as if it is getting power but is unable to find a connection and when I plug it in, it gives me a red X over the connection bars. However, when I plug it into one of the 2.0 slots, it works just fine and has no problem connecting to my house connection. I have also tried using an external harddrive in order to test to see if the port is working and tried to transfer files between the two. The rate seemed to be similar to a normal 2.0 slot instead of a 3.0 transfer. In the device manager. it sees that I have the 3.0 drivers installed and says they are working properly. I want to know why they are not working and what I can do to fix it.

I had the same problem, though it was my mistake, instead of using CD drivers I downloaded newest ones from my mobo's website, but it happened that I had downloaded a version for a different revision, it said it was correctly installed and all but it simply wouldn't work.

If you've downloaded drivers make sure those are exactly the ones for your specific mobo.

I've used both the drivers on the disc and from the website and it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I've been able to use my 2.0 4Gb USB through the 3.0 slots but my 3.0 USB external harddrive didn't seem to transfer at a 3.0 rate.

So, your USB 3 ports work, they just aren't as fast as you thought they would be?

I uninstall the drivers and restarted, went to bios to check everything was ok, there is a detect feature that it does show its detecting what is plug in. so they do work. I restarted windows and try installing the drivers again and kept getting this

my buddies son got the same board and last I remember he could not get them to work on it the last I spoke to him let me see if I can e-mail him to see where he stands on that now, he's a army guy so he may not be able to answer fast but i'll try wish I thought of this earlier..... sorry

seems like it should of had a deal to check to install anyway weather Microsoft liked it or not..

like I said above I sent him that e-mail so .... did you try drivers from a download from asrock and the ones from the disk and did you check to be sure you choose the right os that your using? [I have clicked on the wrong one before or mouse sliped and did not see it check the wrong one] but I went through the same thing with an asus board and I just gave it up on it

SOLUTION!!!

Open up Device Manager

Right click the device (the one with an exclamation mark)

Select "Uninstall", and check the option to also remove the driver in the process

Reboot

Wait for windows to scan the devices

Extract the Latest Drivers folder on the desktop

Install a fresh copy of the driver by Right Clicking and Browsing towards the Drivers folder ( DO NOT USE THE SETUP.EXE to install)

If it still show the item with an exclamation still RIGHT click and update drivers using internet.

DONE.

Hope it works for you too.

I ran into the exact problem you are having tonight when I wanted to use USB3 ports. I was able to find the Etron driver program that worked first time up at this link http://www.etron.com.tw/en/products/u3hc_detial.php?Product_ID=6.

Just download and install. Remove existing failed USB controllers and do a scan for new hardware first. No need to reboot. Everything will start popping up afterwards digitally signed.
