My custom build is only able to use half it's available ram for some reason. I'll post tech specs first, then the problem I am having.

specs
OS- Windows 8
Motherboard - Asus m5a97 2.0 http://
CPU - AMD FX-8350
RAM - 16 GB, 4 sticks of 4 GB kingston HyperX red - http://

So the main problem is that the Mobo only senses half of the ram, but windows and ram checker programs all see the full 16GB I have loaded. (16 loaded, 7.9 available according to the windows index thingey) I tested all 4 sticks individually and know they work fine. However any combination that requires the 3rd and 4th ram slots doesn't work, those sticks don't get loaded for some reason. It uses the 2 ram sticks in slot 1 and 2, but not 3 or 4. (A1 A2 yes, B1, B2 no)

Side note- all sticks are running in single channel, and despite an hour or 2 of looking, I cant tell if that's normal for this specific ram. I'm wondering if getting them to run in dual channel would fix the problem, if they even CAN run in dual channel, or if the problem is with my BIOS, or the actual ram slots are messed up.

I bought the motherboard new off amazon about 5 months ago, and so returning it isn't an option, I'm pretty sure it has always been doing this, I just never got around to trying to fix it until now.

One final thought- thanks to the messed USB 3.0 connectors in the front, my HDD got fried last month. (coolermaster is taking surprisingly long to get back to me about that) I'm wondering if that may play into it at all, but I doubt it since the problem has persisted since before then... either way I felt it was worth mentioning.

Solution
Your link to Kingston HyperX red lists eight different selections, none of which is 4 sticks of 4 GB. Compatibility is guaranteed within individual kits not when combined in multiples. There are two 16GB kits listed which are guaranteed to work. You assume to do your own testing for compatibility when combining kits or individual modules. You might try using the next slower speed with looser DRAM timings with your configuration.
