Can I OC to 4.5ghz on my fx-6300 with a coolermaster 212 evo?

Solution

Yeah an 8320 on the 4+2 power phase will get you around 4.3 Ghz. That 970 board is surprisingly good. i have 6+2 power phase with my new board (8320+M5A99FX PRO) and it idles cooler but ive yet to master overclocking on it, like i did with the FX 6300 + m5a97

The Digi + controls are daunting on this thing, but my thermals have been mostly bad in my overclock attempts. i havent put more than an hour into it yet though (recent upgrade)

some of the best fans are http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00632FL8A/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1S17NF4Z68V59PEM5XDR&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846 they are a little pricey but they are super quiet so you can run them full speed and you wouldnt even hear it and http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/283214-29-temp-difference-noctua-hyper he had a drop of 10c under load with these fans. i use two of these fans with my H60 and i never touch 50c underload when im overclocked

Well i had my FX 6300 in an ASUS M5A97 r 2.0 4+2 power phase board. My EVO got me to stable 4.6 Ghz and i matched an 8320 at stock. The ASUS VRMs are very good quality they never got too hot. Im now running an 8320 in an M5A99FX PRO OC'd to 4.0 with turbo enabled and power consumption states enabled too (1400 Mhz idle, 3.7, then 4.0 under full load). Works well but i feel the hit in single core performance makes me miss my 6300 :p

you will be running an 8320 on which board the 970 or the 990fx?

In short, dunno! I haven't so far but still trying! I have however, accidentally discovered that you can manually set both the Core Multiplier and the Turbo multiplier individually. The reason I discovered this is due to installing new PC2133mhz RAM which made my system fall over if I tried ANY OCing whatsoever! So I've set the base frequency to 3.8ghz from stock 3.5ghz and the Turbo frequency to 4.3ghz from the stock 4.1Ghz and interestingly my machine now runs stable with the dodgy RAM at its 2133mhz stock speed. I'm sure it would go far further with this method if I were to downgrade to PC1333 RAM!
