Performing a hard reset can solve this problem. I have had this with my old laptop, follow the below steps
1.Turn off the computer.
2.Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.
3.Disconnect the AC power adapter and remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
5.Reconnect the AC power adapter, but do not connect the battery.
6. Turn on the computer.

This is not working for my laptop. The laptop itself works up untill I enter my password and click log in. After that the screen goes black. I can click Ctrl, Alt, Del and it brings up the little menu... but when i try and close that it goes back to black screen only showing the mouse.
