I have started getting the bits and pieces together to build me first gaming pc for a reasonable fee, I am however a tad confused.... I have chosen to go with AMD, and with prices changing so often and recently dropping again I'm in need of some advice on which is best suited to my build for the price... I have already bought bits and pieces so AMD is now the only choice, just which?

This is what I have started towards, and like I said some I have already bought...
I am wanting to spend £100ish on my CPU, but with various models available in this price range I'm slowly becoming confused as to which is best for me...
Any advice is welcome, and any links or suggestions will be gratefully read...

To help, I have got the Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 MoBo

cheers

looks good to me.

Here are a few suggestions... though your build is fine.

The obvious is to bump the cpu up to a fx8320... not so obvious is to swap away from a single stick of ram. AMD cpus just don't like single sticks; so if you plan to overclock you might be limited by the one stick. get a kit of 2x4gb ram.

the r9-270x is a nice gpu, but i would see if i can't get my hands on a gtx660ti or gtx760 or hd7950 or r9-280. Those are all about the same strength and are all a solid 20% faster then the 270x

I'm going to risk sounding an idiot here, but,, can you explain the difference with piledriver/phemonII and steamroller....
Are the FX3600 black edition same or something completely different? as I have seen the chips advertised as Piledriver/ bulldozer and black edition... this is the sort of stuff I get stuck on as most sites don't do baby speak for people like me...

Thanks,,, I will definately change the RAM, as per GPU's does that work for all brands or is say MSI better than perhaps Evga...
Please ignore solved thingy, not sure what I did to get that, which should show you how much I still need some advice....
Cheers

Well the PhenomII was released 4 years ago... and sadly remains at the top of the food chain for AMD cpus. similar performing AMD cpus are the Piledriver and Steamroller chips. Both piledriver and steamroller are revisions of the bulldozer archetecture (which is really a significant step down from the PhII). Overall you can consider a FX6300 to be roughly equal to a 6 core PhenomII like the 1100T... and a 8 core piledriver to be slightly better. Steamroller is only used in the APU lineup on the FM2+ socket, so it's not really an option for you.

here are the top end manufacturers for both nvidia and amd

Nvidia - EVGA, ASUS, Gigabyte
AMD - ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire

That's not to say i wouldn't buy an MSI or PNY gpu. I currently own a MSI, and once owned a PNY... Just saying those are the TOP END manufacturers for those brands. There are plenty of gpus made by other companies that are just as good

use xbox pad for gaming, and all else is sat back on the sofa so it's mainly for comfort and ease, not having to keep moving to flat surface to move the mouse....so pure laziness perhaps would be the best answer.... and that I quite like using it.. I use it for my laptop when I'm streaming films to the tv when I'm in bed as it makes it alot easier than grabbing the laptop alot..... As I already have it I didn't see the need for a different one, just yet.
