Hello,

about a month ago I built my my own computer using my dells CPU i7 980x extreme. Last week I tried to fix the dell xps 435, to make a computer for my dad. Everything used to work on it and I just added a new cpu to it. Now when I plugin the power, the psu come on, the motherboard comes on, all the fans work but the power shows beam orange light and no start up beep. The moonitor goes to power saving mode without showing the bios or anything. I thought it might be the PSU and changed it, but still the same problem. Beam orang light.

From what i,ve heard, dell PCs are known to have some issues involving a orange power light and what not lol.

Try some of the things mentioned in this thread - http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19411854.aspx

From most internet sources, orange lights indicate something wrong that is stopping it from turning on and there are multiple things mentioned to try.

If nothing mentioned in the thread works then it might be worth putting the old CPU back into the dell to see if it works, if it does then there may be a compatibility issue somewhere.

Thanks for you reply Jay. Unfortunately I checked all those forums before but no help. The whole pc comes on but it just goes to power saving mode. Not sure what could cause it. I unplugged all video, audio and usb cards and drives, but still the same problem.

If it uses an dedicated graphics card then try taking that out and use the onboard.

Also try running the motherboard outside the PC case on a piece of dry cardboard (to prevent short circuting) and clear the CMOS (take out the power cable, take out the battery on the motherboard and hold down the power button for around 20 seconds).
