Well I've had my new Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H with A10 6800K cpu and stock cooler a week now and yes the whirring is starting to drive me nuts, when it really works hard encoding a movie etc is sounds like the kettle boiling. :) Time now for a new quieter cooler.

Unfortunately the Trendsonic Micro ATX case will not fit a coolermaster EVO, cooler is too tall. I don't really want to change cases to a larger one cos it is quite neat on the desk. I'm looking at a Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev.B CPU Cooler 120 mm, anyone using this cooler tell me how quiet is compared to the stock cooler I have. I don't mind removing the mobo to fix the baracket on the rear.

Noctua is great about that, if you need something, they include it, splitter, extension, low voltage adapter, all sleeved not loose ugly wires. They also include any necessary hardware and plates. The L9a is AMD, the L9i is Intel, the L12 has plates for both I believe
Also comes with noctua's excellent thermal paste, according to website.

Case is Trendsonic Corona http://www.redchipit.co.uk/shop?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=122&category_id=32, not a gaming machine but I'm not too serious into games. I'd need to leave the side panel off to fit a coolermaster.

Of all the coolers I looked at I don't know how I missed that one, looks ideal for the job, thanks a million.
Do you know if it needs a backplate put onto the rear of the above motherboard ?
