7870 inconsistent fps and generally laggy?

Hi all, yesterday I upgraded from a GTX 560 SE to a 7870 Tahiti LE, and I've had awful low and inconsistent framerates on games (Borderlands 2, Planetside 2 etc.) which I could run at the same settings on my previous card with no problem. Any Ideas? I have a FX 8120 with the hotfix installed and 8gb ram, so there shouldn't be any problems in terms of other hardware.

P.S: I have cleaned all my nvidia drivers and installed the latest beta version of catalyst.

might be a temp issue. want to try popping the side of your case off and blowing some air into the case with a room fan? if the stuttering vanishes we know it's temps.

I clean it fairly regularly but I'll give it a go. Thing Is my gpu usage is at 32-40% when playing games atm so could that be the issue? If so how do I resolve it?

mmmm... that would mean it's a cpu thing not a gpu thing... still, doesn't mean it's not a temp issue at heart. You just changed the dynamics of the airflow in your case with that new gpu, it's not unheard of for this to cause new temp issues all of a sudden.
