Hey everybody, i had built a custom gaming computer a few years ago, i bought the AMD phenom 2 3.4ghz dual core processor and an asus m5a97. I had a evga gtx 550TI, seagate 250g 7200rpm hard drive-couldnt afford hd at the time so took out of home comp, 4 gigs of ram, Corsair GS600 gold psu. I currently updated my computer as of friday.

I gave my motherboard/processor to my little brother, i bought an i5 4670k as i read its best for overall gaming performance for the money and will run anything, i also bought an asus z87k motherboard to go with it. I have 10 gigs of ram now, and still have my evga gtx 550TI, i also bought a new 1TB seagate 7200rpm hard drive. 'm not a big gamer as far as games that actually take a lot of power but i plan to switch to strictly pc gaming. I have cox ultimate 150mbps for internet and i play runescape3 everyday. My comp runs much smoother and faster now with my new i5 then my amd and hardly ever needs to load something in game. Everyonce in a while the game might lag to use a power ability, i'm wondering if its the servers of the game or my internet-shouldnt be with ultimate or my pcu-shouldn't be ani5 4670k is supposed to be awesome.

I play league of legends, i like random games like planet side 2 and i plan on buying battlefield 4 and other fun cpu games. my i5 is not overclocked-i dont know how to overclock it. Should i return the i5-bought friday and get an i7 4770k for gaming or a i7 4930k for gaming or will my 4670k play anything on ultra without trying? Also what video card should i buy and will my Corsair GS600 power supply be enough to run whatever new card i get? Sorry i'm not very computer savvy but i've made my new purchases based off this site and i know a lot of you are very experienced so any input would highly appreciated thank you so much!

I wouldn't upgrade your CPU thats fine for gaming but your graphics might be worth a look. What would your budget be there?

How did you manage 10 gigs of RAM? I assume you have 3 sticks of ram in the slots in which case you should just use the two sticks that are of the same brand/size, because it can sometimes cause problem to use different brands of RAM together, as they may be different speeds. You also need to make sure that you have them set up to run in dual channel mode. To do this, simply put the two RAM sticks in the same colored slots. The slots should also be numbered, in which case you should put them in your primary slots (will either be 0 and 2, or 0 and 1).

You don't need to get an i7, the i5 will work just fine. Get a new GPU though, as the one you have now is a bit dated, but not too bad. It probably can't play BF4 though and thats why I'm suggesting upgrading it.

Your current Power supply should work just fine with any new components you buy, so don't worry about upgrading it just yet.

No you should not take back what you have. 4670k and Z87 board is the basis of a very good system that will last you a long time, relatively speaking.
Whether it will play "anything" on ultra is a lot more dependant on gpu, you have enough cpu. The upgrade options you mentioned are faster, yes, but not so much that you would notice, especially with your current video card.

Next logical step, get a new mid to high end video card to pair with that nice cpu. R280/R280x, 770, R290/R290x/780/780Ti as examples of very good mid and hi range cards.

Going much above those price ranges gets very expensive for small percentage gains, unless you want to run triple 4 k monitors lol.

Your K model cpu is not overclocked by default, but the "K" means it is unlocked so you can overclock it if you wish.
Make sure you have a good aftermarket cpu cooler before you do that.

Your 600 watt psu will be enough for "almost" any single video card. I say almost because there are dual gpu cards that need more power, that are technically a single card,

Golden rule of video cards. No matter what one you buy, or how long you agonize over your decision, a "better" one will go on sale next week.

Yes it is probably the server because 150 Mbs does not mean the hosted server is capable of that it just means if you log onto a server that is COX will allow the through put.

That being said the most common culprit is WiFi. WiFi is suseptipble to signal loss, Wireless Noise, Interference from other WiFis and a slew of things that will cause packets to be loss while you are playing a game. To prevent these items you can do a couple of things:

- Change your WiFi channel to something other than 1,6, or 11. This will ensure you are using an uncommon channel and be less susceptible to other WiFis.
- Move closer to your Modem but not too close. The closer you get the better the signal strength but you don't want to get under your modem because you could get into the cone of silence.
- Make sure there is no metal or concrete between you and your WiFi. Metal grounds signals and concrete blocks them.

As for what you are looking for in speed. You have to define what you mean. Most gamers look at Frame Per Second or how much data will be redrawn on your screen per second. The higher the FPS the smoother the graphics. There is also Physics processing which determines you relative space so if you run through and area the system can determine where you are. And, if you fall or blow something up it will determine how you or the objects should react. Physics is probably the least intensive pat of the games and most CPUs can keep up with most games but what is more most modern games use CUDA cores on a GPU to do Physics these days so the CPU is no longer a factor. Long story short, get a better GPU not a CPU for game.

As for load times or the time it takes to move from one seen to another. This is caused by your Hard Drive. To improve this you will need a fast hard drive. Solid State Drives (SSD) are the fastet but the cost around $1 per Gig Byte so they ain't cheap. I always recommend a Hybrid Drive (combination of SSD and Standard Drive) for gamers because they are much cheaper and still give you the performance you will want.

I hope this helps.

So can I buy an SSD and use it with my 1tb hard drive? Also to the poster up above I have 2 serperate 4 Gb ram sticks and 1 2gb ram. All 3 are different brands, should I buy more of one of the 2 4gb and get rid of the 2gb and the other 4gb stick that I didn't buy more of?

should really have all the same brands and speeds and timing of ram and you SSD could be used a boot about 8sec start up desktop or less and a 7200 WD black for games and stuff

that cpu is crazy strong for what your doing any lag is definitely on the server side
get a dual memory kit
and ssd will breath new life into that pc you dont need a lot of space 120gb drive will be great for you microcenter has 120gb kingston for 69.99

I game with 2 4Gb 1600Mhz ram and it works just fine for pretty much any game. Don't stress too much on RAM, just get them, put them in, and forget about them, overclocking them is unnecessary.
