Hello guys

I have a XFX AMD R9 290 with the Reference cooler, So im here to ask you for some help to improve to the max stable Overclock, in order of course to achieve the best performance ingame, I will send two links from a stock benchmark and Overclock benchmark so that you guys can help me analyse the situation, the card is currently with the Asus bios.

No OC: http://s29.postimg.org/bsffxbjkn/bench_no_clock.png

With OC: http://s21.postimg.org/cpulkcs2f/overclock_1.png

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards

Use Asus' GPU Tweak to increase the clocks by increments of +15 MHz. Then run Heaven to see stability. Repeat this process until you get there!

Overclocking a video card is hard because each gpu, even from the same model and manufacturer, overclocks differently. This is a complicated process and takes some time.

Hope I helped!

Hello thank you for your reply, I raise the Memory Clock only? or the GPU clock too?

Kind regards

Do both, but do them separately.

Look around at overclocking guides, you seem to be a bit noobish.
Remember that overclocking is dangerous, you don't want to fry your box. Make sure that your psu can handle it.
This is a complicated process. Do some research and don't take only the advice that we give you here on Tom's.

Not that noobish just self built a new machine recently and I gather various info before doing the stuff, anyways ill probably go for a better cooler probably Kraken G10 with a corsair h75(still havent decided let me know what you think) so that I can get lower temps with these clocks, thanks alot mate for your coop.

Glad I helped!

Installation of an aftermarket cooler on a graphics card is a bit tricky, but will be much cooler than the reference design. I recommend it if you think you are up for the challenge!

The Kraken G10 works great. I have one with a H55, allowed a massive overclock and still only hits about 47'c full load in push/pull (at very low rpm so its silent).

I have to Purchase VRM heatsinks separatly correct? and people recommend arctic alumina but it will stick forever and void warranty.

You don't require any VRM heatsinks as the Kraken G10 covers all of the vrms and the gpu itself. You won't have to worry about them.

My card already had a large VRM heatsink on it from stock, but I also purchased some small stick on heatsinks to put on the vram chips as i have heavily overclocked the vram.

Its really amazing how silent you can make it even under full load, as the GPUs dont seem to make as much heat as a overclocked CPU, so even a 120mm aio does a great job. I dont even have a fan profile set, just at a constant 500rpm.

Depends on the card. my VRMs are on the port side of the card. but nvidia fitted a large heatsink that covered them all from stock.
