I recently returned home from active duty and before I left I sold my 780's that were in sli. I see amd released r9 290x so my question is which card should I get between the 290x or 780Ti??? Or should I just wait until around June when the green team will release new cards. I do have an old 5870 I can use until that time...also is mantle really a game changer?

More about : 290x mantle 780ti

780ti wins based on raw preformance. Mantle works well in the games that implement such as battlefield 4, but I don't know if it is a game changer or an afterthought. I would still say 780ti is the better card and runs much cooler than 290x.

When you start reading reviews and articles about the game-changing difference Mantle makes in performance over other technologies and you see these improvements actually demonstrated in a real-world settings, then I'd say choose the 290x. Until then, Mantle is just a promise from a company that hasn't been all that great at following through on their promises.

For now, I say get the 780 ti.

Mantle isn't really a game changer if you have a good CPU, and the GTX 780 Ti is faster, cooler and quieter. Also DirectX 12 is being revealled at GDC and it could give Mantle a run for it's money.

If I were you I'd wait for the GTX 880, It'll be cheaper than the GTX 780 Ti and probably a better performer, plus it will support any upcoming Nvidia technology.

+1 to TheRealHerarb.... Especially if you already own a GTX 780 ti.
