Hi I am trying to boot from my CD/DVD drive, the boot selection is set to CD 1st from the BIOS but it goes straight to loading up XP. I can't even get into F8 (Safe Mode)?
Also I am trying to install Windows 7 and it says i have to do a custom install, but then reports that it is not ACPI compatible amend this and retry.....ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Susie

Your PC is either not seeing the drive or not recognizing the installation disc as boot-able.

Is this 'Also I am trying to install Windows 7 and it says i have to do a custom install, but then reports that it is not ACPI compatible amend this and retry' from within windows.

If you're trying to replace XP with Win7 best thing would be a clean install.
In that case, save any files you need from the HDD, then wipe it clean (use Killdisk or something similar for that, google it and see their webpage for details). Create a bootable media and boot Killdisk from it. Make sure the BIOS settings are all set to default values, then select the first boot device as to match the media you have Killdisk on.
After that proceed with the clean installation of the OS.

The only way the bios cannot see the windows installation disc if it is set to first boot, is if it deems it un-bootable, and therefore proceeds to load windows.
