Hi guys I'm using a i3 3220 with a MSI Z77A G43 mobo. I recently been offered a free Intel Xeon E3 -1265L V2 processor from a friend. I use my PC mainly for gaming and I would really appreciate if anyone can explain to me if it is an upgrade from my i3 and if it will affect my gaming.

The VGA im using is Sapphire 7950 Dual X OC, will it be affected?

Thanks in advance

source for xeon's not having integrated graphics please...

as far as i know that's wrong and they do have integrated graphics too. in terms of speed it should be around the speed of a i7-3770K without the unlocked multiplier and you could really use one on the Z series motherboard for overclocking. you get ecc memory support instead but you wouldn't use that anyway.

sorry missread the model number, yes it's a lower power xeon so slightly lower base frequency but that's fine, no worries it's way faster compared to the i3 3220. if you can find an i7-3770K it should be around the same price

Sorry that model maybe has, but not all Xeons has integrated video and to use ECC memory motherboard also should support that feature!

yep, you're right sir, just saw now that not all xeons have integrated graphics. i imaged that all have it. (only numbers ending on 5 have graphics)

to sum up, yes, the xeon is a great upgrade compared to the i3 - but it is a server cpu. if you can find a K series i7 cpu in the same range it's a better alternative for overclocking.
