I am wanting to build a decent gaming PC for this price. This will be my first build. I live in Canada and close to a NCIX store. I dont need an optical drive or OS. I would also like to be able to upgrade it in the future. I am looking at the following list:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($124.99 @ Canada Computers)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($102.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($90.50 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($74.99 @ Memory Express)
Video Card: Asus Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card ($159.99 @ NCIX)
Case: BitFenix Comrade ATX Mid Tower Case ($42.99 @ NCIX)
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Platinum 550W 80+ Platinum Certified ATX Power Supply ($114.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Wireless Network Adapter: Asus PCE-N15 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($27.84 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $739.27

Cheaper and superior.

Slightly better GPU as well in most games.

This RAM is just as good as the vengeance and less.

XFX 550W PSU, perfectly good quality and 1/2 of yoiur current PSU's price.

Bronze/Platinum doesn't mean much at lower Wattage really.

1TB Drive for less than a 500gb...

Includes CPU cooler so you can OC.

  • Depends on you for some people 320 is enough and for some people 2~3TB is not enough, but you can get 1TB drive for 60$

Well, stock coolers are usually kind of loud and don't work very good.
If you're able to handle the sound and aren't going to overclock (and you don't use your computer in a hot (80degrees farenheit) room) you should be able to get by without it.

But expect your computer to sound like a weak vacuum cleaner when you play games. Having a headset will negate that alot though.

I wouldn't advise using the stock cooler for this CPU its loud and fairly ineffective. Also why buy an overclocking motherboard to run at stock?

If you arent overclocking your fx-6300 then an i3 4130 is better

A budget would help, $170-190 will get a very solid monitor, but they CAN be cheaper, at some quality costs.
Also what is your monitor size minimums, like I can't deal with monitors under 24"

I have about a 400$ budget for those 3 things. What do you guys recommend i do? Stay with those or go with something a little better? Thanks for all the help so far.

    I'd take FX-6300+270 2GB for CPU/GPU
8GB 1600mhz RAM as suggested earlier is fine.

    GTX 750 Ti is not faster than a R9 270! An overclocked 750 Ti scores P6536 in 3Dmark 11 and 4520 in Firestrike. A not so heavily OCed R9 270 scores P7932 and 5260. Source http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/palit_geforce_gtx_750_ti_stormx_dual_review,17.html

    I'd definitely go for a R9 270!

Yeah, sorry my mistake! OP R9 270 is faster than 750ti so if you can get 8320 and R9 270 get it it will maintain your gaming at 1080p (Didn't know why i thought 750ti faster than 270, maybe it's fanboy playing inside me :D

Open up AMD catalyst control center or MSI Afterburner(both free programs)

These programs contain OC utilities you can use, honestly though OCing the GPU won't change performance much. I'd leave it at stock.

Let us know if you have any trouble with Catalyst Control Centre overclocking. I personally would overclock the GPU. I overclock my GPU and its running in a laptop! Definitely gives better frames per second in most taxing games.

How long do you stress test your CPU? Some guys say 2hrs some say 24hrs. I am 2hrs into test running 4.4ghz @ 1.375 volts. Everything is fine and i am not exceeding 55 degrees.

damn i just had a couple lines flicker on my screen and go away. Did this twice. Think its because of the stress testing or GPU related?
