tldr?

Is my temp normal looking? And what should I watch for, in terms of getting too hot? Thanks


OK, I have been having a certain game crash a LOT. The game is State of Decay. Their support said I had a memory leak, I intended to buy new ram anyway, so I bought 16GB ddr3 ram*i know only 8 is needed for gaming*

Still crashes, so they suggested I was suffering overheating issues. I never overclock my pc, and I shut it down at night. I built this rig and as far as I can tell, she has plenty of air flow, but can one of you, looking at these numbers, tell me if anything is odd?

40C at idle is fairly normal. Although that one 60C reading is concerning. You cut off the actual CPU temp, the package temperature on the FX processor is what's most telling usually, but as far as I can tell, your heat output looks pretty average. I don't think you're overheating.

You want to stay sub-65C on those FX chips. 70-75 range is very hot. If it gets into the high 80s, it will just straight turn off your computer to protect itself.

Mostly idle, aside from 1 Unity web based game*dead frontier* I am going to hop on steam and try a few different games for an hour or 3 and rescreen shot and see

Shouldn't even need an hour, but yeah, play something that works out the system a little and see what it goes up to.

Unity can be fairly CPU intensive since it's running from your browser, so it *could* be normal. I would say also find out what your CPU temp idles at with nothing running.

This is with 7 days 2 die, multi player, since my last post, taken with game in the backround, 3 tabs on chrome and raptr running. How does this look? I wont be able to get a new Heatsink and cooling for another month or 2, and want to be sure my gaming isnt hurting my pc

Did you play the game at all before taking the screenshot or did you just start it and leave it in the background? Just asking to make sure. I ask because your GPU temperature seems rather low (35C, with a max of 42C) for having been under load

54 degrees is pretty normal if the CPU is being used a lot. But if you're worried about those temps, I would look at a Hyper 212 EVO, you can generally find them around $35-40.

Thanks. I did not run any other games, yet, been busy but i did leave 7 days logged in all day

I am usually gaming or watching videos, I do video editing once a week, Ill look into that cooler. In the mean time what should I watch for tempwise?

Just for future reference, idle temperatures don't mean much. When testing a CPU for heat issues, always stress test.(Prime95 or aida64) It will raise the temperatures higher than they will ever go normally, but it is much more helpful diagnostically.

Just don't forget to stop the test if the temperatures get past 75C.

They don't mean much except for if they're higher than normal at idle. My roommate's FX8350 ran at 50-something Celsius idle, and would hit in the 80s on load. When we finally cracked the case open and took the fan off, there was far too much thermal paste. It idles in the high 30s low 40s now, and doesn't go higher than low 60s, which is way more acceptable. Since he has an FX processor, I figured it would be useful information given past experience.

This is a true observation, but I've only found it to be a real problem on FX chips around the low-30C point. High 30s-40s tends to be still fairly accurate, but I agree with what you're saying, which is why I asked for the load temps first. I just wanted to see idle for posterity.

Thanks again Guys!. I will be getting a better cooler/heatsink just to be safe. I am used to building pcs, but this was my first gaming pc, and I am trying to make sure it doesn't burn out my some error I didn't plan for.
