I just built a brand new computer 3 weeks ago...

Saturday (2 days ago) I received an additional monitor cord (vga to dvi-d) to hook up a 2nd monitor. All was working fine Saturday and Sunday. I shut the computer down last night before bed and when I woke up this morning and re booted and the display has changed. I went to 2 websites to "test" my resolution and they both said 1536x782. Both sites said that these are not standard resolution sizes and something is wrong. I knew something was wrong, the desktop icons were larger and less detailed and my desktop gadgets were outlined in pink.

I booted up 2 games to see if the graphics were okay, and everything seems to be running perfect (High FPS, Ultra graphics, still fast..etc.) I went into the control panal and adjusted the resolution (says its at 1920x1080) and adjusted it down and back up and it was the same 1536x782.

What could be wrong? I checked display drivers and Nvidia is up to date. LG monitor display drivers are up to date. Games run fine in full graphic settings.

Computer specs:

ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) 8-Core
ASUS GeForce GTX 660 2GB
HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3
Western Digital WD Black 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
Rosewill Green Series Power Supply 630W
LG Black 24" 5ms Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor

Solution
I found the solution. It was actually a Windows update from 8.0 to 8.1. The resolution thinks its Native and it actually is but the Windows update changes the "display of text and other larger items" to 125%. What you need to do to solve this is right click the desktop, go to screen resolution. Once that opens, select "make screen fonts and objects larger/smaller" and change it back to 100% from 125%. That fixed me right up!

Okay, if you can see the screen clearly, righ click anywhere on the desktop screen and select "Nvidia Control Panel". Then go to "Change resolution" tab. If 1366x768 is not in the list, choose "Create Custom Resolution" option and create your resolution with 60Hz Refresh Rate and click OK. If your screen(s) black out, the resolution "1366x768" is no longer supported by your monitor(s) and they won't work anymore. Just wait for 15 Seconds after clicking OK and let them get back up. And then, awesome computer there. :)

This did not solve the problem. I appreciate the response but I am still searching for a fix.

Is the monitor in bad shape? Do I need a new GPU? All of these things are still under warranty for the next week or so... I'm hoping to find a solution ASAP

I get your problem.... Your Graphic Drivers are corrupt.... Just re-install ALL your gadgets which appear in Pink. Re-install your graphic drivers, too. Nothing is wrong with the hardware... This shitty thing happens to me from time to time.... And if all this doesn't help, maybe you have a virus and you'll have to re-install Windows. Can you send a snapshot of your main screen going wrong or something?
