New Build Running As Slow As Possible...

I build a new PC for the first time not even a month ago and I am having TONS of problems. The main one of my concerns was the Atikmdag.sys BSOD. So I googled many solutions and came across the "EXPAND.EXE" cmd command. I tried it and restarted my computer and It was SO SLOW! I tried deleting the expanded version and replacing it with the backup I created, but I was too late. The computer ran like a snail in the olympics; it would constantly freeze and I could hardly do anything. THEN after one more reboot, it started a boot loop and even safe mode wouldn't work properly.

I hooked it up my HDD to my older PC to see if anything would change and noticed it was slightly faster than on my build (slow but still able to access the system recovery). I started Linux and I said something about the graphics having problems. So I thought maybe system restarting it would work. I system restarted my HDD (took approximately 6 hours) and connected it back to my build and NOW MY COMPUTER DOESNT DISPLAY A DESKTOP!!! It says setting up desktop and once it finishes, nothing pops up other than a windows screen and a mouse (Still Running Slow!).

I would try redownloading the AMD drivers, but I can't even get the installation working even when my computer slightly worked.

Sorry for the long sympathy story, but I can't take the mystery solving anymore.

My specs:
Radeon R7 260X
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD
Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 v3 Motherboard
Evea 600 B PSU
FX 8320 CPU with Evo 212

I tried it. Sadly, I lost everything I thought was important, had to wait literally the whole night for it to finish, and I'm still experiencing the snail experience. :(

seems like a failed hdd. I'd say run disk check in windows, but that would be a long wait just to get the expected results.

Nice specs your build should be plenty fast. A single core Atom processor can install windows in <1hr.

I've not encountered your issues previously in my 15 years of building and tinkering. Sounds like the CPU,MB, PS, and video card are working which leaves the hard drive. Hooking up the HD to another pc and booting from it is only going to confuse windows are far as drivers which is moving you in the wrong direction.

Not sure what you mean by started Linux. Try booting from a Linux live dvd/cd (no install) and see if the components function properly.

Like previous posters have stated wipe the drive and re-install your OS's. Even with just a processor change I'll go with a clean install, if its a new MB its a must for optimum performance if it works at all.

With your existing components you really should get a SSD anyway. 120's are super cheap now, but 240's IMO are the sweet spot if you're cost conscious.

I finally got the chkdsk /f to work and I updated everything (Took a very long time). Everything is working perfectly; I'm wondering, if I do get a SSD, can I throw all my steam games and applications into the HDD and still run them on the SSD?
