My set up is as follows:

Intel Core i5 3570k Quad core 3.4GHz
XFX HD R7770 DD 1GB
Gigabyte H61Musb-3v Motherboard
450W PSU
1 x 500GB HDD
1 x 750GB HDD (both Seagate Barracuda)

I know that my motherboard and GPU aren't exactly spectacles in the pc gaming world, but my gpu, even with the games it is supposed to be able to run, will cause my pc to shutdown almost automatically (whilst playing). It only pauses to show a black screen before it turns off.

It's clock speed is set to a default 1000MHz which is adjustable up to 1100MHz.
It's high performance memory clock settings is set to a default 1100MHz adjustable to 1300MHz max.

Is there a reason for these shutdowns, other than the fact that my card isn't the greatest?

Thanks you in advance

This PSU is WAY overpriced and WAY too much. For $35-$45 you can get a HIGH quality 450w unit which will be more than enough power.

What 450w do you have?

Ace is junk. That PSU is very low quality.

Replace it with a 450-500w unit from Antec, XFX, Corsair (not CX, CS, RM), Seasonic. I would not recommend EVGA just yet. They have some decent units but also some other not so good ones and they are too new to know about longevity yet.

I have another question, with something else that I have noticed, my gpu temp rises to 100 degrees C (plus sometimes). That isn't normal is it? Or is that again a result of the psu not providing it with enough power?

I'm not exactly too certain on how to use it, but with every test set to it's default testing parameters, the gpu temp will reach that after a minute or two. If that.

However, I did buy a new psu. The guy recommended a silverstone 500W for my rig and it is now playing games without shutting down. It also appears that, using both AMD catalyst control center and msi afterburner, the gpu temp has gone down whilst playing games.
