Windows 7 Deal too good to be true?

I'm in the process of buying parts for a new PC and I stumbled on a deal on Windows 7 64 bit ($61.99). It's on sale on techsupplyking.com. The site doesn't look very well put together, but it was listed on techbargains.com and it contains the "genuine Microsoft Software" badge which links to the retailers microsoft page. The one thing I notice however, is that the product is listed as "Windows 7 Home Premium 64-BIT" and not "Windows 7 Home Premium With Service Pack 1 64-BIT". Has anyone purchased software from this site before? Is there an issue with buying the non SP1 OS? Can I buy it and then install SP1?

Windows 7 Home Premium With Service Pack 1 64-BIT: http://www.techsupplyking.com/MCW7PP_006.php

Thanks!

It's possible for them to be selling it that cheap, but with 8 being put on sale from time to time, I'd stick with getting 8. I'd also stick with buying from a well know retail place <Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect> Yes, you can download the service pack.

Whenever I see an 'everyday price' significantly below the major resellers (Amazon/Newegg/etc), my spideysense starts twitching. Yes, the major guys do have sales once in a while. But this just raises my alert level.

Why and how are they able to sell it that much cheaper?

Appreciate your input. The PC I'm building will be primarily for gaming and Windows 7 seems to be the recommended OS. I'm also not interested in the Windows 8 user interface.

I feel the same way. That's why I'm being so cautious about it. Newegg has it for $79.99, but that's still $20 more than this techsupplyking.

Stick with windows 7. Windows 8 has too much bloatware and is only good for touch activated systems. So as long as you're not buying touch screen monitors, get windows 7. i wouldn't worry about the low price and the title not including SP1, as soon as you fire her up, windows update should activate and download it for you.

Win 8 doesn't come with any special bloatware. I've been using it since the early Preview days, and it works just fine on a regular desktop.

I've already used windows 8, and its okay; for touch systems. I'm not saying it slows down the pc, just that it has a lot of extra stuff that some people might not need

I agree with you, no Bloatware, and I don't have, or use touch on 8. I boot direct to Desktop, not using Metro, just using Classic Shell, and system boots and runs fast and stable.

Hey gamer85,

I just downloaded the same package, and had ZERO problems. Plus, when I received the activation code, they upgraded me to Windows 7 Professional, at no extra cost. It downloaded as a DVD ISO file, which creates a boot DVD. Downloaded, installed (via the DVD I burned) and running fine for a couple of weeks now. Don't worry, they're legit!

I've personally purchased copies of Microsoft Office 2013 Pro from them in batches of 5 or 6 at a time. Each time I'm send links to download the ISO files for either chipset flavor (32-bit and 64-bit) and sent keys that always work. I can only speak from my limited experience but in the past I've bought from them and it's worked. Granted, I've not yet purchased an OS from them but I could only hope it's with the same speedy transaction turnover and reliability as what I've seen thus far. Happy Hunting!

And this one. I can't believe someone would go through all that trouble just to make their company look good

My account is fake eh??? Wow... first I heard of this.

I posted here because we've purchased from this site for work and I wanted to share my personal experience and thoughts on the matter. You know, what you're supposed to do in your posts to a forum.

Needless to say, my account is not fake. I usually post and read on SpiceWorks.com but over the years I've had several Google searches lead me here so I figured I'd contribute. I happen to have thoughts and personal experience on this topic in particular so I figured I'd share.

I saw someone else post something about them being a "Microsoft Partner" and I searched and they do pop up.

Tech Supply King on Microsoft Pinpoint

So, take from it what you will but I personally am going to do more research before purchasing Windows 7 from this company. I had some chat with someone from the site and all of their info checked out but it's still shaky ground in my humble opinion.

Thanks.

Well, this account isn't fake. I just bought a download version of Win 7 Home Premium last night. They upgrade it to Win 7 Professional at no additional cost. $61. Got the download link and license immediately. Downloaded it, burned it, installed it and ran the activation today. No issues whatsoever. I would definitely go through them again - its just too cheap and easy.

Funny because my account isn't fake either but I still got called out. Moderator sent me a private message saying that I'm on a *watch list* and that they have no problem making my account go away. So, with that, my account will probably get deleted soon. Either way, I doubt I'll be ordering from the site. I'll pay the extra $40 or $50 to get it from Newegg or Amazon.

But I say again, we've ordered Microsoft Office 2013 from them and had zero issues.

All I can say is that I ordered from them in good faith just as I would from Newegg or Amazon (which I've also ordered OEM OS software from in the past). There is nothing to make me believe that its not above board since they are a Microsoft partner and my account has been around actively since 2008. If that doesn't satisfy other members or the moderation team I don't know what else to say.

Yeah great, I was saying that those few accounts were fake. Except for the one with a baby on it. That isn't. I believe you guys, I was just saying.

I know this thread is probably beat to death already but in talking with some colleagues here at work it seems like the price of Windows 7 is dropping each week. Enough to the point where I have to say I'm willing to pay an extra $40 or so to purchase an OEM copy from somewhere like Newegg.com. I saw the "System Builder DVD 1 Pack" for Windows 7 Pro on Amazon the other day for $124 with free shipping. While most only want a key for whatever media they might have laying around, I personally plan on slapping a genuine Windows sticker on everything I build.

My company was recently audited by Microsoft and with me being the IT guy around here I had to do all the digging for proof. Now, not to say this is anything against any site but when I provided examples of keys from various Microsoft products I purchased, they asked me three times for three separate examples of 5 keys for Microsoft Office because the keys I was giving them were the ones we purchased from places like techsupplyking.com Once I started giving them keys from Office 2010 cards I had laying around they stopped asking.

My answer, I'm working on becoming a completely Linux ran, Microsoft free house all together in the next 5 - 7 years. I'm tired of Microsoft all together.

Be Well...
