Mobo: GA-B85-HD3:
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4566#sp

CPU: Xeon E3 1230 V3

GPU: Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x OC (100362-2SR)

1. Should I be concerned that in the specifications for this mobo that the Xeon line is not specifically mentioned even though the mobo does support LGA 1150?

2. The video card is PCI Express 3.0. When it comes to physically putting the vid card into the mobo slot, should I put it in the slot labeled PCIEX4, or PCIEX16. I'm guessing the 16, right?

(strangely, my board has "pci express 3.0" written on it in a different slot than that shown in the image found in the above link. On mine it's written between the PCIEX_1 and PCIEXI_2 slot.)

Yes. There's no point in getting a Xeon unless you plan to run this thing 24/7

And yes, of course the x16. The PCIe standard is 3.0, the version number. Not the speed.

Thanks everyone. Every time I mention this build I get folks recommending the i5 or i7. In my case, I don't want to ever overclock and so the xeon is a cheaper i7 without an IGP I don't need anyway. The Xeon still has the advantage of hyperthreading like the i7 and unlike the i5. It was a close call but I've debated this quite a bit in previous threads already. Original argument for the Xeon started with logainofhades.

Solution wise, it's a coin flip for Mowat and jimpz. Looks like heads. Much appreciation to both.
