So this is kind of my 3rd thread regarding this issue but over time I have been ruling out possible causes of my issue and wanted to ask for a last time what some people might think before I start throwing money at my PC.

From the start: I bought myself a GTX 780 from EVGA a few weeks ago installed it and everything was running GREAT! BF4 70-110 FPS. Then after a few days I come home fire up the game and am struggling to make 60 fps with dips into the 20's. So I think bad video card right? Well I call EVGA and set up an RMA. But before I sent it out I thought I would do some extensive troubleshooting. So I went to a friends house and put my card in his PC. Ran great 80-110 FPS in BF4. So we tried His PSU in my comp with the 780 still running like crap. Next his RAM and PSU same thing. After that fresh OS wipe His RAM his PSU still running like crap. So it's not the 780 its not my PSU it's not my OS. Only thing I left at this point is my CPU/Mobo right? So I try flashing a fresh bios. Nothing changes. I run Memtest86 on my RAM just for giggles no errors there. I try a defrag nothing. Tried under clocking my CPU tried overclocking my CPU once again nothing. It's been about a week now and it seems to be getting worse now my PC constantly hangs freeze and is to the point that I only get about 30-60 FPS in Dota 2. Have tried 3 different GPU's in my PC (570,650,780) and all perform EXACTLY the same. So I am out of things to troubleshoot or so I think. Anyone have any clue or do I just need to buy a new CPU/Mobo? Can a CPU/Mobo go bad without completely dying?

Also worth noting nothing is overheating I run my CPU under liquid cooling my the GPU has never exceeded 85c.

System Spec:

AMD 8120
AsRock 970 Extreme 3
EVGA GTX 780
Samsung 840 Evo 250 GB SSD
8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHZ
Rosewill 750 PSU
Corsair H50 CPU Cooler.

Friends PC:

AMD 8320
AsRock 990FX Extreme 3
8 GB Corsair 1600 Mhz
1TB HDD
Used my GTX 780
Corsair 650 PSU

Sorry for the wall of text but I am trying to be as detailed as possible.

I don't want to sound like captain obvious...but just in case. Have you tried installing it in your other pci x 16 slot ? could be a bad or damaged slot on your MOBO

im thinking it may be the mother board, the 970 chipset isnt really built to handle a 8 core amd cpu it is better handled on a 990x/fx chipset

it says it throttles a 8 core when over clocked and this is because the board cant handle the power draw...maybe the board can also not handle the power draw of just a stock 8 core cpu either. just a speculation and someone please correct me if im wrong.

especially since you said that your performance has been degrading it makes me wonder if your mosfets are getting burnt up

Yes happens in all games. And I agree his CPU/Mob is better but my system was performing JUST FINE for about a week. Have tried rolling drivers back and doing clean wipes. With Geforce Experience and without it every which way. See and even with his stuff being better 60 FPS in a source game on a 780 is UNACCEPTABLE! He has an HP with a 650 that does better than that.

You could be right. The FX8120 is one of the most inefficient cpus in the history of the world. I always recommend the 990FX to people insisting on getting the FX power hogs. People don't understand the importance of the motherboard. It and the power supply are the two most important pieces in any build.

You are a genius! I never tried that. Slot is only an X4 and I am running 80-90 FPS BF4 again!

NICE!!! Awesome to hear! Its easy to get so involved in the little details sometimes that we forget to look at the big things. I do it all the time...
