Okay so I'm running it on my itx build on the Silverstone sfx 450w gold psu. My system will crash randomly, but usually under load when gaming, and the screen just loses signal and the GPU fans spin way up. I have to reboot every time this happens.

I've tested this on two different motherboards so I'm thinking it has to be either the power supply or the card.

Does the red LED flash mean there's something wrong with the power supply? Only the light above the 6 pin connector on the card flashes red for a moment before going back to green while the fans speed up at black screen.

I think your power supply is too small. Considering how much power the 290 takes you should have no less than 550w.

I agree. Also, have you checked your temps?

Yeah temps have been fine, and I'm not too worried about them since my system will crash randomly while just web browsing, not as often as when gaming but it does happen. I don't have anything overclocked, just running an itx board, ssd, 7200rpm hdd, zalman cnps8900 quiet cpu cooler, 3570k stock volts and clocks, and 2 case fans. The extreme psu calculator tells me I'm under 400w with this stuff in my system.

Could it just be a bad PSU? I wish I could find out what the red LED flash on the 6 pin connector means, I'm trying to contact Asus to see if they could give me a definite answer.

You must be getting around a half-second long sound stutter before the black screen(if you're running something with sound). That means the drivers crashed and the PC shutdown.
Your power supply doesn't have enough current to drive that card.
No way a 290 should run on a 450W power supply.
Its TDP is 275W.
You should run that card on a 650 W power supply.

Your PSU is not bad, just not powerful enough to start with.

The weird thing is that it ran fine in my ATX system powering my 290 while I waited for my RVZ01 case and ITX motherboard to ship, and for a short while in my ITX case. When I put it in my ITX case I had it setup on my coffee table and my cluts roommate knocked it off the table, and it seems like that's when the problem started.

The ITX system must be smaller, so a probability of heat issues. Are the temperatures of the card normal?

Yeah temps are good, and last night I threw everything back onto my ATX board and case and now I'm getting the same issue on that board, with the side panel off getting plenty of airflow.

Could be damage to the mobo or gpu when it got bumped. But your still pushing it with that PSU.

I was thinking mobo too but I'm getting the same issues on my old mobo.

Have you another PSU woth more juice to rule out your PSU? Or test the card in a friends computer?

Unfortunately I don't have an extra power supply but my friend might let me throw my gpu into his pre-built pc

Just make sure his PSU is up to the task.

On reviews, the 290x with a 3960x pulls only ~375W. So I'm confused as to how a 290 and 3570k build could even be considered an issue on a gold 450W PSU.

That's what I used to make my decision in the first place.
