Will upgrading my RAM improve my fps in games?

Hi,
I have 4gb of RAM with a AMD Radeon 7870 and a 1920x1080 monitor. Will increasing my RAM improve my FPS at all and if so how much?

Solution
As a rule of the tumb, you will lower loading times and will remove shuttering when you load new textures from the hard drive (with more ram more textures you could have pre loaded) but don't expect a sizable increase in fps in most of the games, you only will increase fps at some points (old ram bottlenecks).

And ofc that only work if you are talking of 64bit os.
i think (and please someone correct me if im wrong), if it (the game) eats up more than 4gb (including windows and other running apps), then adding more would help. if not, then i dont think it will help.

again, i can be wrong though. but 8gb is the sweet spot now, so its ok. and you have a good gpu

Oh okay I don't have really that many processes running. Do you think i'm good for now? Oh and do you know how much RAM games usually take up?

I have 20GB of ram in my system. using a unigen benchamrk, I actually halved my FPS just by removing 4 GB. If you don't believe me, here are the benchmarks before and after:

I assume you had 2x 8 GB and that 4 GB stick since u had 20 GB of RAM? Because mixing memory sizes can sometimes slow the pc. It's best if you have same memory size and speed sticks, preferably same models.
