Hey guys

Gonna try and keep this short and to the point. I am saving up cash for a new G card to replace my ageing 560GTX TI's in SLI, I have been looking online but cannot make up my mind. I have done through the best for the money guides and its either the 770GTX or R9280X My setup is as follows.
I5 2500K @ 4.5GHZ
8GIG Gskill Ripjaws X 1600mhz
MSI MP67A GD80
MSI 560gtx ti's in SLI 950mhz core
Corsair 120GB SDD
32inch Sony screen 1920x1080@60hz

I dont mind which brand i buy as long as is gives the best possible performance @ 1920x1080, without breaking my wallet. Just want some outside opinions. I like the AMD's pricing but i got second thoughts because of the hit and miss rumours about the drivers but the 770gtx is pricey.. Any help would be appreciated. Soz if there is the million other threads like this but i need to make my mind up soon

I definitely wouldn't pay the premium for the extra 2GB on a 1080P setup. That card should be just fine. You'll still get great performance with 2GB.

The GTX 690, while having two GPUs on it, has only 2GB available to each GPU and still sits at the top of the GPU heirarchy list because it outperforms most cards with more VRAM:

I have the gtx 770 and I'm loving it. Not a single problem minus some hiccups on some indi f2p games I downloaded. Plays bf4 on ultra averaging like 70fps (this being my most demanding game). Not having used the r9280x I couldn't tell you how awesome that card does.

Based on my experience with AMD drivers and Nvidia drivers, I recommend you definitely stick with the 770. Any of the EVGA models run pretty cool (both stock and custom cooled). I also like Asus and Gigabyte cards. Just look for the best deal with one the reputable brands such as these.

Also, if you have a PSU that can run two 560 tis, you're already set to run a 770.

overkill won't be the term applied now a days due to the games using more than 2gb of vram at ultra and higher MSAA settings. If you looking for the best settings you are gonna need more than 2gb for upcoming and games like skyrim. Even BF4 is nearly using almost of 2gb vram. Depends on you, if you can stay bit low with settings of better games coming out ahead, 2gb would do an honor for your gaming machine.

Processing power still continues to be more important than memory size when it comes to overall performance. I don't think this will change as long as memory sizes continue to scale accordingly over time.

I appreciate the great feedback guys but iam gonna try and get the 4GB version of the 770GTX for a little future proofing (I hate that word). Well thats if i can find one here in South Africa :p, if i cant get one ill just get the 2GB version Great forum help as always :)

Either way is good. By the time we all get around to absolutely requiring 4GB+ video cards in order to get good gaming functionality, we'll all be on to some future generation of GPU altogether.
