Looking for help to remove this Blinkx virus without having to install yet another antimalware, my antivirus is up to date! Grrrrrr. It`s not in my programmes therefore cannot be uninstalled. Tried a manual way but the advice offered on the net makes no sense to follow on my pc.

What antivirus software are you using? I do know some virus programs will 'hide' itself as an antivirus program, but is actually the virus itself. Also, I highly recommend running an anti malware/spyware program such as Malwarebytes or Superantispyware as many antivirus programs don't actually include (or is of poor quality) malware/spyware removal. Many viruses aren't actually viruses but just malware/spyware which is designed to either annoy or grab information. Lastly, it is best to run your antivirus and anti malware/spyware programs in safe mode in Windows (Google search for safe mode in your version of Windows as there are different steps to get to safe mode depending on the version) as it may keep the virus from loading into memory. If after these don't work (as well as methods you've tried from the internet), you may be best off to have a computer shop fix it as some can be quite stubborn to remove.

I'll second the malwarebytes suggestion. Once you HAVE a virus you usually will need a dedicated, secondary virus checker/remover, never rely on your installed anti-virus alone for detection after the fact or REMOVAL, and malwarebytes is the first option here but if that fails keep trying, there are others and sometimes it takes finding just the right removal method to get rid of a stubborn virus. Try to identify the exact virus/malware you have.

exactly, and this is what so many posters on this site dont seem to get.yes you might get rid of some of it but most malware hides in spots that one malware tool might not find but another will.sometimes it takes a combination of removal tools to get it all.but the most ignored advice when it comes to malware is to post the logfiles from your av and malware scans.this is the only way we can get a picture of what is infecting the computer in the first place.you wouldnt fix a car blindfolded why would you expect someone to get rid of an infection that way? and one last piece of advice, dont try to remove malware by deleting registry items.doing this can make it near impossible to properly clean up the computer.

blinkx is far from nothing.its annoying adware that has rootkit capabilities.here is a step by step tutorial on how to remove it.ive used all these tools myself and can vouch for their capabilities.
