No wireless (new build)

Hi,

I've just finished putting together my new build and am now moving onto the software. I'm unable to connect to the wifi.

I have the Gigabyte x79-ud3
windows 8.1

It may be that its doesn't have a wifi adapter and that I need to buy one, but if anyone has this board, help would be appreciated.

It does not have onboard wifi, no. You would need a PCI, PCIe, or USB wireless dongle.

That being said, you shouldn't use wifi if you can avoid it. A wired connection will be faster and much more reliable.

There's no wireless built-in for the motherboard.

Wireless adapter is required.

Thanks for the replies! Wired connection isn't an option for me.

Then make sure that you look at your router. If it's a wireless N router, get at least a wireless N wifi dongle. If it's a Wireless AC router, get the same form of dongle so that you can take advantage of the newer tech.

You plug these into a wall outlet near the router, connect an Ethernet between them, then take the other adapter to a wall outlet near your PC, plug the Ethernet from the adapter to the PC. It works like that, not as good quality as direct Ethernet, but it's better than wireless.

^That's true. The good quality ones are pricy, though - at least when compared to a USB dongle or ethernet cable.
