CPU not cooling down!

I just took off my stock cooler and installed a new cooler (Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2) and it's not cooling my CPU! I have it seated properly and the fan is spinning. When I look at my CPU from an angle I can see it's making contact with the cooler but slightly off on the other side, could that be the issue? I really don't want to take that thing off! Took so long to get it on, maybe I can just give it a nudge down or something?

Sounds like you put on too much thermal grease. How much did you put on? Was it spread out before you put the heat sink on? Or, did you use a line or dot method of applying your thermal grease?

And, yes you want your cooler to be level with your CPU.

Dis you over tighten it? What method of applying the thermal compound did you use? The pea method is the best.

The paste was already on but some came off on my finger by accident /= I may have over tightened it though! The paste was spread out though, I can see a lot on the cpu from an angle though. Possibly too much paste right?

Yes, unless the cooler is too small for your TDP. What is the TDP of your CPU?

Sorry for the poor intelligence lol but what is TDP? And I think I may have found the problem. Like I said how one side wasn't making full contact, it's because I screwed that side it too much and it's lifting the cooler a little off the CPU. So i'll un tighten it that side a little

TDP stands for Thermal Design Power, the amount of heat/power you CPU will make and need, and the amount of head the cooler needs to cool for.

Yes. Also, if you did not touch the bottom of the cooler where it comes in contact with the CPU you would probably be ok, but if you did you should clean the cooler and reapply new thermal grease because the acids from your finger will corrode the cooler and interfere with the thermal grease.

Also remember when you are tightening the screws to do it in a star pattern so that it tightens evenly.

The question is do you have any Thermal Grease or are you going to need some?

Sorry to interfere in your post Lucas Singh. I'm also having cooling problems right now and i think its due to the wearing off of the thermal paste. Can u please share which thermal paste is good?
(I'm from India so limited brands are available here)
