Hey guys,

One of my 4tb Seagate External Hard drives had a head crash and the recovery data center I sent the drive to was one unable to recovery any data. Unfortunately I don't know what files were on the drive. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, Is there any File cache/index that's saved to the PC when an external hard drive is connected (that I can browse and see what was on it)? I connected the external hard drive about 4-6 months ago.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, if the heads did in fact crash, that means the platter has been scratched, gouged, or otherwise damaged. The questions is where did they crash and how bad was the damage?

Your MFT which is where the data you are looking for is written, must have been damaged also. If that's the case then it is impossible to determine what data was on the drive.

The question is which data recovery company did you send it to?
What did they do in order to determine it was in fact a head crash, and then why was the reason that NO data was able to be recovered.
They should have at least answered those questions for you.
