Hi all,

Before I describe my problem, let me provide you with some background information.

I'm using a desktop PC, Windows 7 64bit. There is an on-board WiFi on the motherboard (Asus P8Z77-V), but it's disable in BIOS due to low range.

Since May 2013, I've been using TP-LINK 300 Mbps High Gain Wireless N USB Adapter (Model No. TL-WN822N). Everything was working fine, until recently, when my adapter wasn't connecting to the network straight away, I needed to wait 2-3 minutes, before I got internet access. I thought that maybe there is something wrong with my adapter and I decided to buy a new one. The new adapter model is TL-WN823N.

I followed the installation manual: insert CD, plug in the adapter when prompted, install drivers plus utility. The new adapter is being recognised, but it's not seeing any networks. I tried many things after this. I've uninstalled drivers for my previous adapter, tried to install drivers for TL-WN823N with anti-virus and Windows Firewall disabled. Nothing.

I've read few forum discussions regarding similar issues, but unfortunately they didn't help me.

I've raised this with TP-LINK support desk and so far they only recommended me to install drivers after in uninstalled anti-virus - still nothing.

I've tried to use my new adapter on a different computer (laptop) and it works correctly, so I imagine that there is either a corrupted driver on my drive, or that some application is blocking my adapter from finding networks.

Here's information from the ipconfig /all command:

This ipconfig log does not showing any of the WiFi adapter is connected/configured. I would check in Device Management and see if the USB WiFi adapter is installed (click run and type devmgmt.msc) and look under Network adapters.

I use Snipping Tool to drag and cut/paste the portion of the screen. To upload the picture you'll need to upload the pic to either https://imageshack.com/ or http://tinypic.com. After upload from those site, it will give you a set of direct link starts and end with {IMG}. Copy that link and paste on your posting.

I'm suggesting that you turn on that mini switch on the USB adapter. Did you install the WiFi application from the CD? if you did, try using that program to see if you can scan any wireless network from it?

I think that this mini switch on the adapter is for WPS connection. I tried to turn it on, but nothing happens.
Yes, I installed the TP-Link program, but it's not showing any networks. Even if I change my Samsung Galaxy S3 into a mobile router and place it next to the adapter.
By the way, can you see screenshots I've placed in my dropbox folder?

try this, click on Start > Run and type services.msc and scroll down to WLAN AutoConfig right click and Properties. On the drop down box, it should be "Automatic" and the Service status: should be Start. If all default, right click on WLAN AutoConfig and Restart the service. Then, refresh your Wireless network.
Hope this helps.

ps: I can see the dropbox attachement.

I done that. Dropdown was set to Automatic and Service status was Start. I've restarted the service and refreshed the wireless networks. The adapter is still showing as Not connected and no wireless networks are showing.

Yes it is refundable/exchangeable, but it works fine on my other laptop, so I don't want to return it. TP-Link suggests performing a clear Windows boot. I'll try doing this after I come back from work.

I performed a clean boot (only Windows apps, nothing else). It still doesn't work. The adapter works fine on a different computer, so the issue must be isolated to my machine. The only other thing that comes to my mind is Windows re-install, but that's a bit extreme...

I've just bought this same USB WiFi device, and I'm seeing same issue. Works fine on an XP machine, fails on Win7 64bit. I've posted my issue on the below forums. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. Really hoping I don't need to re-install. A lot of work just to get a USB WiFi up and running. Still, happy to hear you got yours working. I didn't have a previous one installed, so hopeful mine's not the same issue/resolution ;-)

Ok, resolution to this is quite simple. Uninstall Zone Alarm Free (disabling it did nothing), then install utility/driver will allow the device to see networks/connect.

This is the correct solution for those using Zone Alarm antivirus. I though I bought a defective adapter but luckily I found this post on my laptop.

Regards.
