Hi I'm trying setup a older pc with Win XP sp3 and after the setup is complete and it reboots the first time I get... a disk error occurred press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot message.

The mobo is a Asrock p4i65g and the hard drive a Seagate pipeline 500gb sata.
I've tried every possible setting in the BIOS including resetting the defaults. I have Win XP sp1, sp2 & 3 none work same thing every time after first reboot.

Here's the kicker tho.. I also have Windows7 and it installs with no problems on the above mentioned system !?

The BIOS recognizes the hd and dvd on the sata channels with no probs. This is a older mobo with both ide and sata 2 available.

I have a newer quad core with 7 on it. I wanted to bring ol' xp back life and play around with some older software I have kicking around

So can anyone solve this for me or do I have to get myself a old ide hd for the primary which I was hoping I wouldn't.

Thanks.
Wayne.

I have not had any luck with XP and SATA drives and when trying to install I was never able to find a bootable device, so I used nLite to slipstream the motherboard SATA drivers into the installation and everything worked like it should.
