Hi, I'm in the process of putting together a new gaming rig and I haven't been able to decide which CPU+Mobo+GPU configuration I'm planning to go for. (I'm fully open to any suggestions by the way). The main purpose will be gaming on a 1680x1050 monitor at (hopefully) max settings with games like Planetside 2, Skyrim, WoT, and Battlefield 4. My two main choices are as follows:

Intel Core i5 3570k Quad-core @ 3.4GHz
Asus P8Z77-V ATX Mobo
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 2GB

-Or-

AMD FX-8350 8-core @ 4.0GHz
MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Mobo
Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card

My budget caps out at around $850-$900, with $900 being my absolute limit.
I'm willing to go for an AMD graphics card however I prefer Nvidia cards.
I appreciate any help!

Solution
I know many people will tell you to get the AMD build due to the better GPU.

But I'd go with the Intel build; 8320/8350s need an overclock to compete with Intel CPUs.

That and Planetside 2 and Skyrim both favor strong single core performance processors.

Give me about 5 minutes and I'll have your answer. :)

Here are the benchmarks for your proposed CPU's:

Well, at your proposed resolution and choices of gpu's, I would recommend the FX-8350/gtx 770 route. Usually I would definitely say get the 3570k over the 8350 if you won't be overclocking the 8350, but the gtx 770 is noticeably better than the gtx 760.

Hey thanks man, I do have one question though. Under the 8350 it talks about only having 4 physical cores with 2 logical per physical, I was under the impression that it actually has 8 physical cores but a shared L2 cache per 2 cores. Is that true or is it really just a quad core?

It claims 8 cores, but only 4 modules. Read this comparison:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_FX_microprocessors

It tells all the performance specs for all AMD bulldozer CPU's.

Thats exactly what I needed to know! Those are the two games that I play the most.
