Which CPU would not bottleneck a 2-way r9 270x crossfire configuration?

hey all,

I have recently decided to upgrade from my single r9 270x to a 2-way config. of this card.

The thing is, is that i have been researching a little, and it seems that you must have a pretty beefed CPU to handle a crossfire or SLI config. and actually make a significant difference. I currently have a fx-6300 in my system. Would this be enough for a configuration of this standard?

Thank you

fx cpus don't get as huge a boost in xfire as intels... but they do fine.

Now, if you want to do better then fine... and to get the most out of xfire with an fx you need to focus on memory speeds... FX cpus reach their peak memory speeds around ddr3 1866 with low CAS latency (9 or lower)... a nb and ht speed of 2600mhz (or as close as you can get)... with dual channel ram (4 sticks rather then 2)... toss in an overclock to the cpu up to around 4.8ghz and your SLi/xfire settup will be nearly identical to an intel.

Understand it should still do fine without any of the above... just give some suggestions for getting the most out of an xfire setup with an AMD cpu.

Thank you very much for the info

With this information I will work towards faster memory. Would you suggest a slight CPU overclocking?

well as i said, generally speaking your xfire setup will work fine. we're not talking about a huge dropoff or anything.

that said, as long as you have an aftermarket cpu cooler, a fx6300 will overclock quiet well and high. Heck most of them can get to 4.3-4.5ghz on their stock voltages. so sure... a bump in clock speed can help a bit.

OK thank you,

One last thing: Is there any aftermarket CPU coolers that you would recommend? (if i were to over to overclock)

depends how serious of an overclocker you are. Also depends on your motherboard. As your overclocking will be in part limited by the board.

If you want to get the absolute most out of it, then a h100i would be ideal... if you're just wanting to get a moderate and easy overclock down, then a hyper evo 212 should be enough.
