R9 290X constant crashing.

I used to own a computer with a HD 6990 I had this issue with it so I swapped the card for a 7950, same issue. A friend of mine owned the same card and had the same issue.
Then I got an entirely new computer, new everything, with a R9 290x same issue, so I had that replaced, STILL have the same issue. So I don't know if this is just a 'thing' with AMD, but it certainly seems like it.

Anyway, the card will just crash at random times. Sometimes I get full screen artifacts, sometimes it recovers with a 'Display Adapter has stopped responding and has recovered' message, sometimes it blue-screens, sometimes it just resets.

here's the specs:
GPU: AMD R9 290X
GPU Drivers: 9.14.10.01017, Catalyst 14.3
GPU BIOS: 015.041.000.002
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor
16GB RAM.
MotherBoard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Hard Drives: 120Gb Kingston Hyperx 3K SSD & 1TB 3.5" SATA-III HDD
CD Drive: 24x Dual Layer DVD Writer
Power Supply: CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES MODULAR V2-80 PLUS
CPU cooling: Corsair H80i Hydro Series

Some thing's I've noticed are:
-If it recovers then the GPU usage is permanently stuck at 100%, according to MSI Afterburner, and the next time I do anything that renders graphically the system will outright crash.
-the problem seems to be getting progressively worse.
-if I restart immediately then it will crash again as soon as I do anything that requires graphical rendering.
-If I wait a few seconds before I restart it's 'fine'
-there seems to be no connection to heat.
-sometimes it will crash within seconds of being turned on, sometimes hours.
-playing graphically intensive things such as video-games increases the chances of a crash.
-With all of the four cards and two systems I've experienced this on, it happens from day one, even on a totally fresh install.

Things I've tried:
-Uninstalling the drivers, even using CCleaner to be sure, then re-installing does not help.
-Disabling ULPS and forcing constant voltage does not help.
-Under-clocking / lowering voltages does not help.
-Increasing fan speed, does not help.
-Praying to the PC God, prayer not answered.

Should I just switch to Nividia? Because it seems like this is a consistent issue, since I've tried four different cards with two different systems and had the exact same problem as well has a friend of mine.
In-fact I don't physically know a person that hasn't had this issue with an AMD card.

Can anyone please help me?

Update to this:
I reduced the core voltage (-25), re enabled ULPS and bumped up the fan speed.

This seems to have solved the problem 'most' of the time.
However I still get the same issue when playing a very graphically 'advanced' game, such as 'The Secret World' or when the system has been running for extended periods of time.
After these crashes, if the system recovers, the GPU temperature isn't particularly high but the usage then gets stuck at 100% - even at the desktop.
The system will then crash in short order or when I try to launch anything.

Lolzipop i have the exact same issue, but my card is a Radeon R9 290 from Sapphire, a reference desing. I just wanted to tell you that you can rest assured that the PSU has (most likely) nothing to do with this issue. Many people told me that it had to be the PSU when i was trying to solve this at first, so i bought a SeaSonic 1000w 80 plus platinum to replace my Sentey 850w 80 plus white PSU. Didn't really change anything... I will try to test what you said.
Not long ago while reading on forums i found out two things:
1: An awful lot of people are having this issue with the R9 290/290x cards.
2: Many people strongly suggest is a GPU Memory issue, something about only the memory modules of the GPU being broken. I have no idea to date if that's true.
Feel free to browse my threads, though i don't think they will help you, as the did not help me.

Not sure what OP means, but by context I think it means the thread starter. In that case:
For both of us. For any of us. We have the same problem and any help would be much, much appreciated.

Well you have a 650w PSU with only 80% efficiency. Its possible that in your case is the PSU apparently. Most manufacturers recommend atleast a 750w PSU. Please try another PSU (if you can avoid buying one for the test, it would be the best), from a friend or something. Try it to be a 750w 80 plus silver or something of that caliber. Come back with the results if you are still following this thread.
